Competitive Pay

Pierce Transit’s total employment package includes a competitive wage as well as great benefits.

Retirement Fund

As a public sector employee, you are included in the Washington State Public Employees Retirement System. Employees in this retirement plan do not contribute to Social Security (normally a 6.2% tax on wages).

Health Insurance

You and your family can choose to be covered by one of our medical and dental plans, as well as health savings accounts, as well as dental, life insurance and long-term disability. Veterans with TriCare or VA benefits can elect to waive PT medical and dental insurance and receive a waiver payment up to $350 per month.

Matching Deferred Compensation

Employees are eligible to participate in a Deferred Compensation (457) plan for tax-deferred retirement investment with an employer match of 4.25%. This is similar to the military Thrift Savings Plan (TSP).

Paid Time Off

Generous vacation and sick leave accruals come with each job along with paid holidays. If you presently serve in the reserves or National Guard there is an annual benefit of 21 paid days for military leave each year.

Pierce Transit ensures employees have access to professional development and career opportunities. Many of our Transit Operators have promoted to Instructor, Service Supervisor, Dispatcher and Communications Controller positions. The agency has staff dedicated to workforce development to assist employees with their career advancement goals. In addition, we offer a generous tuition assistance program for employment-related tuition (you can save your G.I. Bill benefit or use for another purpose).
